Synthetic filling is generally made of (recycled) polyester and favourable in price. Often the filling consists of one or more layers of very fine hollow polyester fibres. It can also consist of ‘flakes’ that give the polyester a down-like structure and improve air permeability. Polyester absorbs very little moisture and insulates well when damp. The lesser wicking of moisture results in a noticeably poorer sleeping climate than down or wool.
